Monastery of Zoodohos Pigi of Kakoperatos (or Panagia tou Hatzimanoli) |
Southwestern to the village of Kosmadei, on the mountain Kerkis, within a ravine leading to Seitani and at an altitude of more than 650 meters it is situated the monastery of Zoodochos Pege (Virgin Mary, the Spring of Life). The area around is overgrown and the rocky mountainsides of Kerkis at the West dominate the place and make the church invisible from afar. |

At a distance of some 500 meters it is found a cave with a small church within it. The place is accessible via a precipitous and pretty dangerous path, to which the place owes the name “Kakoperato” (meaning something like “hardly accessible” or “the bad route”). A bit northwards you will find the small church of Ae Giannis (St. John) and beside it the Panaretos precipice. Access to the church from the town of Karlovasi is possible by private means (car and motorbikes). |
