How to get here:
You can reach the island by car, by bus through the national network (KTEL) (form Athens, Thessalonica, Patra, Agrinio, Preveza) or by taxi without the need to take a boat while the island is connected with the mainland by a 50m bridge.
You can also come by plane (Preveza Airport) from Athens, Thessalonica, Crete or other the Ionian islands or by boat from Cephallonia.

The island:
Lefkada is joined to the mainland by a narrow causeway and a floating bridge 50m in length which turns to the side on the hour every hour in order for boats to pass.
The island is approximately 15 minutes from Preveza airport and is connected to Preveza and Northwestern Greece through the under water tunnel from Aktio to Preveza.
It is the most accessible island in Greece and is never cut off from the rest of the country.
In order to give the best description of the island we have divided it into 6 sections.Each section has its own has its own characteristics and is different from the other.And so the island is divided into the North which takes in the capitol of Lefkada and the main entrance to the island, the East which covers cosmopolitan Nidri, the south and Vasiliki, the West with its beautiful beaches, the central mountain area with its forests and finally Kalamos and Kastos which cannot be included in any other section due to their setting.
The Northern area:
In the north of the island, where the entrance is situated, you will come into the capitol past the castle, Gyra and Agios Giannis - this area is considered excellent for wind surfing -, the villages of Frini and Apolpena that are situated in the north western area in the heart of the Venetian olive groves, Kaligoni and Ligia in the north eastern area near the ancient town of Niricos.
The eastern area:
On the east coast there are many small villages where you get rooms or eat in fish restaurants, cosmopolitan Nidri - made famous by Aristotle Onassis-, the Prinkiponisa ( Scorpios, Madouri, Cheloni etc) that you can visit by boat from Nidri, Meganisi which can also be reached by boat or by ferry from Nidri, the beautiful beaches of Desimi and Poros (Mikros Gialos).
The southern area:
In the south is Vasiliki - one of the most known windsurfing areas in the world- alongside other villages such as Sivros and Agios Petros which await your visit to welcome you with traditional Greek hospitality in the peaceful and green surroundings, for the freshest of fish you should pay a visit to Sivota.
The Western area:
On the West coast you will find all the beautiful beaches of the island first choice Kathisma and Porto Katsiki which are awarded the blue flag every year and several small villages where you can rent rooms, in the picturesque village of Agios Nikitas you will find hotels, fish tavernas and small bars.
The central area:
In the centre of the island you will find Karia (the largest village on Lefkada)- alongside many other small villages. The area will mesmerise you with its beautiful pine forests, and rare ferns and cypress trees.
Kalamos and Kastos:
Kalamos and Kastos are something special. Two small islands in the north eastern area of the county, away from the main group of islands. Picturesque, almost insular they offer their visitors peace and quiet and a slow pace of life.
