Description

For many years, Stira is one of the most beautiful and cosmopolitan areas on the island of Eubea and only 55 km from Athens During its long historical past, it was an independent kingdom that fought the Persians with its naval fleet. The "Castello Rosso" was built near a beautiful beach in the area of Lefka at about one mile from the town of Stira. The hotel architecture reminds of the old seigniorial residences of the Greek islands.

Attractions

The island of Evia is no more than a infinitesimal dot on the surface of the globe’s sphere. It is a dot, however, which is distinguished by the light of a particular grace which nature has preserved for it, demonstrating thus a bias, against the other areas of our planet.



The combinations which are seen in this Greek region are truly unique. The blue of the beautiful Greek sea, the green of the rich mountain flora, the traces of a life lost to our planet’s mysterious past, the remains of great ancient civilizations next to the so many modern tourist facilities – all these coexist and continuously place Evia at the forefront of travelers interests. In Evia’s favor we could add, the easy and trouble-free access to the island for visitors, since bridges as well as ferry lines have transformed Evia into a peninsula of both Greece and Europe.



Thiw earthy heaven includes also the beautiful and interesting region of the Municipality of Styra. The Municipality of Styra includes the narrowest section of the island of Evia. Styra, the main town of the Municipality, is located 89 kilometers south-east of Chalkida. Mount kliosi (685 metres) and its foothills create an idyllic landscape in the region, completing the picture provided by the lace-like coast of the gulf of Evia and the bays of Almiropotamos and Nea Styra. The small Stouronisia islands give the impression of guarding the bay of Styra from the western side. The largest, is the island of Styra (ancient Aigeilia), whilst smaller ones are Verdouni, Agios Andreas and Fonia or Founias.



Further south, in front of the bay of Almiropotamos, is the island of Kavalliani, which is considered to be Pliny’s Glaukonnisos. The Municipality of Styra (with a population of over 3000) today comprises a territory of 188,583 km2 including Styra, the main city and the parishes of Almiropotamos, Esochoria, Nea Styra and Polypotamos. Smaller hamlets are Kapsala, Panagia (Almyropotamos beach) – near by the Leon, the ancient promontory, according to the geographer Ptolemy, Lefka, Nimborio, Raptei, Tsakei, etc.
