Description

One of the best-known buildings in Syrrako is the stone built old school of the village were It has been converted into the traditional “Syrrako” guesthouse but everyone knows it as “Scholio” (the school).



Indeed, the visitor has the feeling that he is in a school. The rooms have high ceilings and many large windows, like the old classrooms. The central room of the guesthouse is the old school corridor.



The rooms are single, double, three or four bedded, so that they can satisfy every need and they are decorated in a simple way and traditional style.



The red woolen “flokates” (longhaired hand made rugs) and the carpets made in the loom, which adorn the rooms and match the curtains and the wooden furniture, add a touch of color. Although breakfast cannot be called traditional, it contains many local products.



Finally, one advantage of the guesthouse is that during spring and summer, there is an open-air café where visitors can have a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and enjoy the view of the village square, one of the most picturesque spots of Syrrako.

Attractions

The area: There are many sights in the village, such as the church of “Aghios Nikolaos” with the woodcut iconostasis, the house of the poet Kostas Krystallis, now open as a museum – library, and the Avdikos mansion. Outside the village, at an altitude of 1800 meters and perched on a rock is the country church of “Aghii Apostoli” (the 12 Apostles).



Suggested activities: Walking along the beautiful, 3km long old path that joins Syrrako to Kalarrytes. Visit the monastery of “Theotokos Kipina” built on a vertical rock. Excursion to the cave of “Anemotrypa” in the region of Pramanta and the bridge of Plaka in the river Arachthos. Trekking to the mountain shelter of Stroggoula, in the “Isomata” location. Short trips by 4WD cars to the nearby villages and the mountain routes of the area. Rafting and kayak in the rivers Arachthos and Kalarrytikos.
