In the center of the village Katsanochoria, in an estate full of trees and flowers is the “Rodami” guesthouse. Its name means bud, shoot of holm oak. In the courtyard of the guesthouse there is a very tall holm oak, which is many years old and every spring is full of new buds.
The building is old, as foundations were laid in 1833, according to an inscription carved on the wall, and has been listed as a preservable building. The house was built by an old family of Katsani, the Paterousis family, of which the current guesthouse owners are the sixth generation. Through the centuries the building has served various purposes. It was a residence, a shop until the war and a police station. When the Germans burned the village of Kalentzi in 1943, the self-sacrifice of the family saved the house from total destruction.
Today, its three apartments are spacious (70 – 90 sq. meters each), comfortable and full of light, with built-in fireplaces, minimal and traditional decoration and facilities suitable for families or groups of friends. Each room is a different color (blue, brown and green). Breakfast, which also includes local products, is served in the “Katoi” (basement) of the house, while there is a fireplace in the comfortable sitting room.
“Rodami” is the best starting point for activities in nature as it is very close to Arachthos, Tzoumerka and also the sights of the Prefecture of Ioannina. Demos Paterousis knows a lot about the sports in the area and can inform the visitors, suggesting the best expedition according to the season.
