Description

Few years ago, the engineer Pyrros Poulis, decided to restore the stone house that his family has owned since 1700 and used as a summer house. What resulted was a hotel in a traditional style, with discreet luxury and the equipment of a modern hotel. Pyrros named the hotel “Princess Lanassa”.



Together with his wife Johanna, they adorned the house with well made hand-woven fabrics, hand made Persian carpets and antique furniture. They created pleasant spots such as the comfortable sofas by the big fireplace or the stone paved courtyard with the tables and the beautiful view.



The rooms are spacious, beautifully and discreetly lit and with shiny wooden floors covered with carpets. Fresh fruit or a bottle of wine awaits the visitor on the table in the room.



Breakfast is served in the large oblong dining room with the wooden ceiling. It is rich in traditional products and jams from local fruit and they are made in the hotel’s kitchen. Meals, made according to local recipes, accompanied by selected wines from Epirus and “tsipouro” (traditional Greek spirit) are served in this room.



The hotel is the ideal place for people who love nature and sports. Facilities such as swimming pool with Jacuzzi, gym, tennis court and a 5x5 football ground provide visitors with the opportunity to exercise in nature.

There is a swimming pool, snack bar, barbeque, conference centre, small spa and mini gym. It also boasts tennis and soccer five-a-side facilities. At the hotel restaurant you can sample a variety of specialities, traditionally prepared, using wholesome local products.

Directions

The hotel is located in Kostitsi, a small village of Epirus, Greece. 



Epirus is the ancient cradle of the Greek nation. The philosopher Aristotle, teacher of Alexander the Great, wrote: "Ancient Greece is defined as the land around (the oracle of) Dodoni and (the river) Acheloos. It is inhabited by two tribes, the tribe of Selloi (Σελλοί) and the tribe with the ancient name Graekoi (Γραικοί), now called Hellenes (Έλληνες)" (Aristitotle, "Meteorika", ch.14). These two tribes gave Greece (Hellas) and its inhabitants Greeks (Hellenes), their name. 



Kostitsi, at an altitude of 900 m, is just a 25 minutes drive from Ioannina and its magnificent lake. It commands a breathtaking vista of the Tzoumerka Mountains and the Arachthos River Gorge. Some distances worthy of note are, Ioannina airport 30 km, Preveza airport 105 km, Igoumenitsa port 87 km.

Attractions

A 30 to 90 minutes scenic drive, apart from the wonderful city of  Ioannina, can lead you to numerous sites of historical and cultural interest and of memorable natural beauty. Notwithstanding Ioannina, home town of Ali Pasha, with its many shops, restaurants and bars, you can visit the Oracle and Ancient Theatre at Dodoni, Vrellis Wax Figures Museum and the Louros river, with its trout farms.



Also well worth seeing, are the Tzoumerka Mountains with the picturesque villages of Agnanda, Pramada, Melissourgoi, Kalarrytes and the renowned Syrrako, birthplace of Krystallis the poet. The candlelight midnight mass of Resurrection in the nearby Tsouka Monastery, is a spiritual experience not to be missed.



The Zagori Villages, Vikos Gorge, Papingo Mountain, Zitsa , Acheron River (gate to the Underworld) and Souli make extremely interesting day trips.



For sailing buffs, Captain Thodoris can pick you up at Syvota and whisk you away in his boat for a cruise around the Mythical Ionian Islands, perfectly followed by an "interlude" at the "Pyrrhos" suite of the hotel.
