Koukounaries is a rapidly developing tourist resort around the homonymous beach , one of the most famous beaches of the Mediterranean Sea; the settlement is situated at the southwestern coast of the island, at a distance of 13 kilometers southwestern to the town of Skiathos. It counts some 150 permanent residents, almost all of them occupied in tourism.

The settlement offers many alternatives for accommodation and eating close to the beach. Access to the resort from the town of Skiathos (Chora) and from the airport is pretty easy by public buses, with frequent service, by rented or private car and motorbikes, but also by taxi, as the distance is quite short. If you wish to arrive here by yacht, facilities for mooring are available at the small port of Koukounaries.
