Harakas beach, Attica |
The lovely beach of Harakas faces the small islet of Patroklos, or Gaidouronissi (“the island of the donkeys”) as it is called by the locals and the elder people; it is situated on the way to Sounion, some 5 kilometers before arriving there, and some 58 kilometers southeastern to the center of Athens. It is a long sandy beach, extended within the homonymous cove, well protected from the northern winds; it is a somehow unknown beach of Attica. It owes its name to the ruins of the defensive construction dated in the Hellenistic period. |

The beach is not organized at all, but the sand is fine and the sea clean enough. No food and drink facilities are available at the beach, but you will find several taverns in the area around, where you may enjoy your meal close to the seaside. During the weekends it attracts more people, both from the broader area and from Athens. |

In case of emergence there are a few pharmacies at Palaea Phokaea, some 12 kilometers western to the beach , or to the local Medical Center of Lavrion, some 14 kilometers at the Northeast. At Lavrion you will also find a Police Station. Access to the beach is possible by public buses, running regularly, as well as by rented or private car and motorbikes. If you come by private means you will find the signs for Harakas at your left, some 2-3 kilometers before arriving to Legrena. At this point you have to leave the public road and park your vehicle at the flat are close to the sea. |
