Marikes beach, Attica |
Marikes is a 700-meters-long sandy beach, with rich nice sand, situated at a distance of some 1,5 kilometers southern to the port of Rafina and 29 kilometers eastern to the center of Athens. The beach is somehow affected by the northern winds, but it is better protected from the southern ones. In short distance from the beach you will find the archaeological site of Askitario, very important due to the traces of mining activity during the Early Bronze Age. |

There are several accommodation facilities close to the beach, both in the town of Rafina and at the neighboring settlements of Artemida (Loutsa), Nea Makri and other summer resorts. The small town of Rafina, extended around the port and in the inland offers many alternatives for nice food and for entertainment and nightlife; you will find several music bars, coffee bars and haunts for young people. The beach is not organized, but as it is found almost within the town it is ideal for a quick dive close to Rafina. |

In case of emergence the pharmacies of Rafina, as well as the Police Station and the Port Authorities’ Station of the town are available for you. Access is easy by the intercity public buses (KTEL) and by private means (car and motorbikes). During the weekends, it gets somehow difficult to find a parking, especially in August. If you stay in the town, the beach is accessible also on foot. If you have a boat the marina of Rafina is available for mooring and for any supplies necessary for your vessel. |
