Beach below the temple of Poseidon - Sounio, Attica |
The small sandy beach within the well protected small cove below the temple of Poseidon, known also as Kavo-Kolones, is found at a distance of some 68 kilometers southeastern to the center of Athens. Many alternatives for accommodation are available both close to the beach and in the broader area of Lavreotiki, especially at the neighboring the summer resorts. |

The beach is not organized at all; only a few tamarisk trees will protect you from the bright sun in the hot days of summer. The sea is clean and deepens smoothly. For any problem, the pharmacies and the local Medical Center of Lavrion, some 10 kilometers at the Northeast, are available for you. At Lavrion you will also find a Police Station and a Port Authorities’ Station. Access to the beach is possible by the intercity public buses (KTEL), with regular service, and by private means (car and motorbikes). Parking close to the beach may be a bit difficult during the weekends, especially in August. |
