Votsalakia beach, Attica

The sandy, well organized beach of Votsalakia (meaning “small pebbles” in Greek) is situated between Mikrolimano (known also as Tourkolimano) and Zea (known also as Pashalimani) at the southern coast of the peninsula of Piraeus, within the urban tissue of the city of Piraeus and below the well known hill of Kastella. It is found at a distance less than 1 kilometer far from the port of Piraeus and 13 kilometers far from the center of Athens. Across the beach it is situated the skerry of Koumoundouros.

Accommodation is easy in the area, as there are many hotels both within Piraeus, in the area around and at the near by town of Neo Faliro. The area is famous for the gorgeous fresh fish and sea food that you will find in several taverns, many of them at the sea front; these taverns and the nice food, ideal for good wine and ouzo attract a lot of people everyday, for lunch or for dinner. Apart from the fish taverns, you may also find a lot of restaurants and fast foods, traditional cafés and modern coffee bars, as well as bars and clubs for nightlife and amusement.

The beach belongs to the Municipality of Piraeus and is fully organized; it is a nice beach within a surprisingly beautiful environment, at the heart of the city of Piraeus. The sea is almost always calm, as the beach is pretty well protected from most of the winds, which is an extra advantage of the beach along with its vicinity to the city and the facilities available.

In case of emergence you may address to the hospitals, pharmacies and doctors of Piraeus. Being within the urban tissue you will also find a Police Station and a Traffic Police station, as well as all the necessary services of the public or private sector.

Access to the beach is easy by trolley-buses running frequently, by taxi from Piraeus and of course by rented or private car and motorbikes. If you stay around, you may choose to go to the beach on foot and enjoy a nice walking within an area with interesting architectural features. If you have a boat, the nearby marinas of Zea and Mikrolimano are available for mooring and providing the necessary supplies for your vessel.
