The Tholos is an impressive monument, situated at the sanctuary of Athena Pronaia, between the later temple of Athena and the Treasury of the city of Massalia. It is a masterpiece of Classical architecture (it is dated in circa 380 b.C.), but its use still remains uncertain. It is suggested that the monument was dedicated to chthonic deities.
